It's a funny word: Doula.
As an expectant parent, you've seen the word and may have wondered
what, exactly, is a doula? And, more importantly, how can she help
assist you toward a healthy birth? My name is Cheryl, and I am a certified
doula licensed in Washington State. As such, I have undergone extensive
training to provide safe, nurturing, and knowledgeable support to
women and their families before, during and after labor and birth.
As a mother of two, I hold the birth of a child as sacred, and view
birth as the most powerful and transformative experience of mother,
child, and family. |

I and my doula partner Jennifer Head (253.631.7260/www.jenniferhead.net)
provide physical and emotional support to the mother during birth
and encourage family members in supporting her. We listen carefully
to the mother's hopes for her birth and encourage and assist her toward
a labor and birth we hope she will remember with joy. Our desire is
an experience the woman recalls as a positive affirmation of her strength,
spirit and love. As members of the international Doulas of North America,
we know the benefits of doula care are profound. Research is clear
on this. If birth is in your future, consider a doula. Doulas are
the heart of birth. |
